A few days after their concluding concert in Lucerne, the young musicians of the LUCERNE FESTIVAL ACADEMY will perform at Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie. Under the direction of Principal Conductor Matthias Pintscher they will present a brand-new score as well as a modern classic from Hungary. In 1994, György Kurtág, the master of the miniature, unveiled his first orchestral work, Stele, a moving piece of funeral music that mourns for a deceased friend. Meanwhile, in Reading Malevich, Kurtág’s compatriot Peter Eötvös translates a painting by the Russian Suprematist into music. In addition, they will perform works by George Benjamin and Bernd Alois Zimmermann, whose 100th birthday the music world is celebrating in 2018.
